pappu-biyam koodu(daal-rice dish)
Ingredients
  • 250 gms rice
  • 100 gms tur daal
  • 1 tbspoon chilly powder
  • 1 tbspoon dhaniya powder
  • (OR)you can also use sambar powder
  • 1 teaspoon jeera
  • 3 garlic pods
  • 1 small cup of sambar onions(shallots)peeled& cut lengthwise
  • Curry leaves 
  • 3 tablespoon of oil
  • Mustard seeds
  • Turmeric powder
  • salt to taste
Procedure
  1. Wash rice and daal together and keep it aside.
  2. Heat pressure cooker and add oil to it.
  3. Toss mustard seeds,curry leaves, onions and add washed rice and daal into it.
  4. Add chilly powder,dhaniya powder turmeric,
  5. Jeera and crushed garlic to it.
  6. Add salt to taste.
  7. Add sufficient quantity of water to rice and daal and close the pressure cooker and cook normally as you cook rice directly.
  8. Open the pressure cooker when the pressure is gone, mix everything once and serve with pickle,ghee,pappad and curd.
Tips
  • If you prefer slightly sour taste, dice one small tomato and add it along with onions.
